Spotlight on…Revolution, the fast-beauty brand with a focus on inclusivity

30th March 2020 | Author: Phee Waterfield

It’s time to stand (or sit) for diversity from the comfort of your dressing table – Revolution Beauty, formerly known as Makeup Revolution, enters its sixth year as a challenger brand, bringing a combination of affordable prices and boundary-pushing products. It’s the reason why it’s one of the best cheap makeup brands around.

Over the coming weeks and months, we’re going to be shining a light on brands that represent and align with what we stand for at mamabella – brands that offer great products at low prices; brands that champion inclusivity and diversity; clean, sustainable and ethical beauty brands, and brands that are challenging the beauty industry hierarchy.

We’ve previously taken a look at The Ordinary and Carbon Theory, both affordable but science-led skincare brands offering fantastic products. Elsewhere, we’ve outlined what we consider to be the best cheap makeup brands on the market.

Revolution Beauty: A Brief History

In 2014, Revolution was founded with a clear mission – to challenge existing standards and democratise an industry that plays a key role in defining society. Originally thought up over a kitchen table by founder Adam Minto and pushed along by entrepreneur Tom Allsworth, it took only six months for products to be stocked by its first retailer.

On its website, Minto says: “Five years ago, Revolution was created out of a vision for a better beauty company, a ‘new normal’. We have now grown to become a global brand that still stands for the same values.

“We believe everyone should have access to quality makeup if they want to, and that every definition of beauty deserves to be celebrated.”

The brand’s business model is what makes it different from its competitors. The company has a “fast beauty” concept, where it launches products weekly – all of which are always PETA-certified cruelty-free, never tested on animals. According to the company, 76% of its products are vegan.

Why we love Revolution

When looking at makeup, it often feels like we compromise between good quality and accessibility. But not when it comes to Revolution Beauty. Stocked at Superdrug,, Beauty Bay and ASOS, it’s never been easier to buy a Revolution product – whether you’re into its PRO range, its skincare or its ‘basic’ range.

In terms of affordability, there’s nothing to complain about. With concealers starting at £3, foundation starting at £4 and eyeshadow palettes at £4, it means that buying essentials doesn’t need to cause a dent in our bank balance.

Its colour range is also impressive – whether your skin is pale, medium or dark, Revolution has a shade for everyone.
