Huda Glowish skin tint review: Dewy finish, decent coverage but it won’t suit everyone

18th June 2021 | Author: Jenny Tai
Verdict

As the ‘love child’ of Huda Beauty and Wishful, this skin tint does as it promises and lives up to the quality of the products from both respective brands. It creates healthy-looking skin with a natural, bronze glow.

At £32, this is a lot of money to spend on a foundation, let alone a skin tint. In fact, Huda Beauty’s #FauxFilter Skin Finish foundation stick is the same price, and the original #FauxFilter foundation is only £2 more expensive at £34.

As an oily skin type, we probably won’t be using this on a regular basis and certainly not in place of our regular foundation. Two facts that make the price of this skin tint a little hard to swallow.

However, if you have dull, dry skin this will likely be a dream product and will be more than worth the money. What’s more, the consistency of this skin tint means a little goes a long way, and it can be used in multiple ways; mixed with foundation, as a highlighter, as a light bronzer for your body in place of fake tan.

Pros
  • Good coverage combined with skincare benefits
  • Vegan-friendly and cruelty-free
  • Suitable for sensitive skin
Cons
  • Pricey
  • Slightly sticky and heavy on the skin
  • Not suitable for oily skin types

Huda Kattan has a lot of fingers in a lot of pies and across her Huda Beauty, and Wishful Skin ranges, she’s almost constantly launching new products. However, at the start of June, she did something a little different. She launched a new brand, one that leaned on her experience from both her makeup and skincare ranges. A brand called GloWish.

Its products – which at launch include a tinted moisturiser and a bronzing powder – combine natural coverage with skincare benefits. The former borrows formulations from Huda Beauty’s #FauxFilter foundation line and the skincare borrowed from the brand’s Wishful Skin range.

The Soft Radiance Bronzing Powder comes in five shades, lasts for up to 12 hours and contains skin-loving ingredients including Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Squalene, Ugly Red Bell Pepper extract, and Damascus Rose Oil. There is also a GloWish Airbrush Finish Complexion Brush (£32) to help you apply both products.

However, it’s the tinted moisturiser – a product called GloWish MultiDew Skin Tint – that is the subject of this Huda Glowish review. The GloWish skin tint is described by the brand as a “radiant, moisture-packed skin tint that instantly brightens the complexion and blurs pores for a soft-focus, dewy finish” and we’ve spent the past two weeks putting it to the test.

The Huda GloWish skin tint is available in 13 shades. This seems a little low considering Huda Beauty’s foundations come in 39 variations, but is still better than other skin tints that come in as few as four.

If you’re unsure which shade you need, check out our foundation match guide. This has a specific section dedicated to finding your shade match in both Huda Beauty’s #FauxFilter foundation, as well as this GloWish skin tint.

It’s waterproof, transfer-proof and is made from 92.6% naturally derived ingredients, including Ugly Red Pepper extract, Damascus Rose Oil and Squalane. It doesn’t contain any fragrances and is non-comedogenic which means it should be suitable for sensitive skin, and shouldn’t clog the skin and causes breakouts.

How we tested

We tested the GloWish skin tint on some of the hottest days we’ve had so far this year in the UK. This is because we wanted to see how well it withstands the heat and humidity, in addition to testing its coverage, formula and consistency.

Before each test, we prepped our skin with moisturiser and primer and we applied the GloWish skin tint using a foundation brush. GloWish range also recommends Glowish Soft Bronzing Powder that comes in five shades. This is said to finish off the glowing look but we haven’t yet got chance to test this out.

GloWish skin tint review: Formula

Huda GloWish skin tint review formula and thicknessmamabella/Jenny Tai

Before we applied it to our face, we swiped a small amount on the back of our hand. Firstly, to see how much we would need, but also to check the overall consistency and how close the shade match was

The first thing we noticed about the Huda GloWish skin tint formula was that it more closely resembles a foundation than a typical tinted moisturiser. It has a thick texture and a little goes a very long way.

We were actually glad to see that the consistency wasn’t runny – as is the case with some tinted moisturisers – and we’d say it has more of a medium consistency.

Before we applied it to our face, we swiped a small amount on the back of our hand. Firstly, to see how much we would need, but also to check the overall consistency and how close the shade match was. We opted for the Light Medium shade and although it was a tad darker than we normally choose when opting for a foundation, this is in part due to the fact it’s meant to have a bronze glow to it.

Huda GloWish review: Application

After preparing our skin with moisturiser, primer, and SPF – GloWish skin tint doesn’t contain any sun protection as an FYI – we followed the brand’s advice and applied this skin tint from the centre of the face outwards. Blending as we went.

We opted to use a foundation brush because of the thicker consistency and, having also tried blending with a sponge, we’d recommend using the former to get more control. Particularly around the hairline.

Despite its thick texture, we were pleasantly surprised by how well this skin tint could be applied to the skin. It didn’t dry quickly, so there was no rush to apply and blend quickly. This is one complaint we’ve had with Huda Beauty’s #FauxFilter foundation sticks in the past.

At first, we were a little disappointed with the “glow” this skin tint created. It had a pearly finish to it, but in some light it just made us look a bit shiny. However, the more we blended, the more the glow appeared and the more it caught the light on highlighted areas of our face.

The GloWish skin tint comes in 13 shades and has a thick consistency, on par with a full-coverage foundation

Even though it gave decent coverage, it didn’t cover up some blemishes on the skin that a full-coverage product would have dealt with easily. This is largely because it’s a skin tint, not a foundation. We wouldn’t usually expect a tinted moisturiser to cover up blemishes so, on one hand, this criticism feels a little harsh.

However, because GloWish has such a thick, somewhat heavy consistency – and given its price is on par with foundation – we had expected a little more.

We should also point out that if you have oily skin, both the heaviness of this product, as well as the dewy finish it creates, may see you wanting to reach for a mattifying powder. There’s a fine line with some of these products between dewy and greasy and, on hot days like we’ve had recently, there’s a fine line between dewy, greasy and sweaty.

As a result, we found our oily T-zone was emphasised more by the GloWish skin tint, rather than reduced. Not ideal. At the end of a hot day, we ended up looking a little like a disco ball, but if used on dull dry skin we imagine this will be a dream. We can especially imagine this will look great on older skin because it does make your complexion look more youthful.

If you find the glow a little overwhelming, we recommend you mix a small amount with your regular foundation, or use it as a highlighter instead. Both on your face, and to enhance your chest and body and give you an all-over sunkissed look.
