Eyelash extensions are huge time savers, but the trade-off for cutting down your makeup routine is that they need a lot of care and attention to keep them – and your natural lashes – in great condition. Normally this isn’t an issue, but with the country in lockdown, many of us are faced with needing to know how to remove eyelash extensions at home, safely and easily, with ingredients you can only get online.

Although we’ve listed these methods below, the safest and most natural way to remove eyelash extensions at home is to wait for them to grow out and shed naturally. Under normal circumstances, we’d also recommend you have eyelashes removed by a professional.
Plus, a positive to glean from all this is that if you’ve become hooked on eyelash extensions – or any treatments for that matter – this is the perfect time to give your lashes, nails, skin and hair a well-earned rest.
Emily and Lauren have detailed two slightly different ways to remove your eyelash extensions at home – one is done using ingredients you’re likely to have at home already, the other involves the use of eyelash extension remover gel.
This method for eyelash extension removal at home is great for sensitive eyes but requires a lot of patience. You’re unlikely to remove your extensions immediately with this technique, particularly if your lashes are freshly glued or your technician used a lot of it. It will take time to break down the glue, so you may need to repeat this process a couple of times over the next couple days.

Step 1. Wash your eyes – remove any dirt, dust and makeup with your gentle foam cleanser.
Step 2. Place a teaspoon of Vaseline on your small plate and add a few drops of Olive/Castor oil to the mix.
Step 3. Place a small amount of this Vaseline/oil mixture on a cotton bud, close your eye and cover your lashes from the inner corner to the outer corner with the mixture. If you can get someone to help you with this step, the process will be quicker. Otherwise, you’ll have to do one eye at a time.
Step 4. Place the cling film over your eye with the mixture on and relax for 20-30 minutes.
Step 5. Take a clean cotton pad and very gently wipe in a downwards motion. Any eyelash extensions that have loosened will slide off.
Step 6. After removing the mixture away from your lashes, take a damp cotton pad and gently wipe the eye to remove any of the Vaseline/oil mixture. Repeat steps process of step 2-4 for your other eye.
Step 9. Once you’ve removed the loosened eyelash extensions, wash your face again with a foam cleanser.
This method can take some time but is the most gentle way to remove eyelash extensions at home without causing stinging or pain.

How To Remove Eyelash Extensions – Method 2
The key thing here is that you must do one eye at a time, and wash your eyes thoroughly if any product gets into your eye and starts to sting or cause irritation.
Step 1. Wash your eyes – remove any dirt, dust and makeup with your gentle foam cleanser.
Step 2. Stick the eye pad under the first eye. If you don’t have eye pads, use one half of a cotton pad soak it in water and squeeze any excess water out, ensuring that the pad is still damp and placed under the eye you are starting with.
Step 2. Gently sweep the eyelash extension remover applicator in a downward motion from the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner. Ensure your eye is firmly closed. If you get any gel remover in your eye, wash your eye with cold water until the stinging subsides.
Step 3. Wait for 3-5 minutes for the gel to work before using a tissue to very gently wipe your lashes. Your lashes extensions should come away easily from your natural lashes. If you feel a tug, stop wiping and use a spoolie to gently stroke from root to tip in a downwards motion.
If you have stubborn eyelash extensions left, use some more of the eyelash extension remover for a further three minutes and repeat with wiping with tissue and using a spoolie.
Step 4. Once you’ve removed your eyelash extensions, use a cotton pad soaked in water and gently wipe your lashes so any excess lash remover is removed. Repeat steps 1-4 for your other eye.
Step 6. Once both eyes are extension-free, wash your eyes with a foam cleanser to remove any excess remover and apply the lash serum once your face and lashes are dry.
Take your time with this method.
